  • Start Spider Vein Removal for Smooth Legs This Summer

Spider veins occur when the one-way valves in our veins fail. This allows blood to pool, especially in the legs, because they are farthest from the heart and blood must fight gravity to circulate properly. If you are embarrassed by your spider veins, there are several procedures available to remove them and give you flawless legs.

    Sclerotherapy for Spider Veins

Sclerotherapy is done in the office, with no anesthetic needed. Medication is injected into the offending veins, which causes them to collapse and disappear within a few weeks. This therapy has been performed for over 150 years and is perfectly safe. Our circulatory systems are redundant, so blood flow will just be rerouted to another vein, deeper in the leg and out of sight. Possible side effects include swelling, bruising, itching and a slight chance of infection. You can use an ice pack to soothe any irritation and avoid infection by keeping the injection sites clean.

    Laser Therapy

If you are not keen on needles, laser therapy uses light to get rid of spider veins. This treatment is popular for mild cases and does not work well on large varicose veins. You may experience skin pigment changes, swelling or bruising. As this method does not break the skin, the risk of infection is nil.

    Lifestyle Considerations

No matter what treatments you have for your spider veins, lifestyle changes can help lessen recurrance and help keep your veins healthy. Avoid standing for long periods and do not sit with your feet tucked under you, as both of these habits place enormous pressure on the legs. Exercise frequently to encourage good blood flow. If you notice small spider veins starting, have them treated before they gave a chance to get worse.

For most patients, a series of treatments is necessary to achieve full results with treatments being several weeks apart. We recommend starting vein treatment as soon as possible, so you can have beach ready legs in time for summer! At Mariposa Aesthetics and Laser Center, we’ll work with you to help you get the best possible results.

Spider veins are unsightly and can make you self-conscious, especially during the warm summer months. If you are ready to get treatment, call our office to schedule an appointment. At Mariposa Aesthetics and Laser Center, our medical team is happy to discuss your options and get you on your way to smooth, flawless legs.

  • Put an End to Excessive Sweating with miraDry

Everybody sweats. It’s the way the human body was designed to regulate its temperature. However, there are very few times when sweating could be considered cool or desirable. For most people sweating is just gross. Excessive sweating is even worse.

Some people suffer from axillary hyperhidrosis, also referred to as excessive underarm sweating. This has been a problem that the cosmetic industry, as well as different parts of the medical industry, have worked hard to find a solution for. In January 2011, the FDA approved miraDry as a way to treat excessive underarm sweating. Currently, miraDry treatments are available in the United States, throughout Europe, in Canada, and in parts of Asia. Interestingly, in 2015 the same device was approved by the FDA as a way to permanently remove underarm hair.

As the FDA evaluated the effectiveness and safety of miraDry, they found that it was a safe and effective way to not only attack the excessive sweating that people with axillary hyperhidrosis suffer, but it can also can remove foul-smelling underarm sweat.

In one study, a group of patients were treated with miraDry. They went through a seven-month period of evaluation. At the end the study showed that more than 83 percent of the treated underarms showed a marked improvement when it came to hyperhidrosis, and more than 93 percent of patients showed a reduction in the production of sweat that created a foul odor.

A similar study that was done at the University of British Columbia showed that miraDry was able to reduce excessive underarm sweat in upwards of 90 percent of patients.

While miraDry has been beneficial to the millions of individuals around the world who suffer with excessive underarm sweat, it is not designed to be used to treat excessive sweating in other parts of the body, like the hands or feet. This is because the microwaves produced by the device have been specifically designed to target the sweat glands in a person’s armpits.

The miraDry procedure is non-invasive. A handheld device is used to direct pinpoint, controlled bursts of electromagnetic energy, eliminating overactive sweat glands.

The entire procedure may be performed under the care of a medical specialist in a physician’s office. Treatment time may vary.

Patients may experience some swelling, redness, and tenderness in their armpits for a few days after the procedure.

miraDry is a safe procedure that allows a person battling the embarrassment that excessive underarm sweating produces to have peace of mind. Contact Mariposa Aesthetics & Laser Center today to schedule your appointment.

  • Permanently Freeze Away Fat with CoolSculpting®

Troublesome fat areas are the most irritating. They tend to remain even after you have changed your diet, changed your exercise habits, and improved the overall health of your body.

The nature of fat is what makes these fatty areas remain even when the rest of your body is at a healthy weight. They become even more problematic when they remain after you put a large amount of work into achieving physical fitness.

The good news is that you can freeze fat away forever. CoolSculpting® can help you control those fatty areas on your body, which can help you achieve that perfect form you’ve always desired.

    Freezing Pesky Fat Away

Fat is resilient because it’s designed to provide long-term energy storage. Fatty areas that are far from muscles and organs that utilize fat tend to be problematic because of this unique quality.

This is why trouble areas tend to develop in isolated areas, which include the neck and torso, and areas with a greater concentration of fat, such as the buttocks or thighs. The fat cells tend to remain dormant while more accessible deposits are used.

Fat has one vulnerability – it doesn’t like temperature change. If fat cells become too hot or cold, they tend to become damaged due to the physical makeup of lipids.

CoolSculpting® removes heat from nearby tissues to damage fat cells. This leads to a controlled cell death that leaves other cells, such as skin and collagen cells, unharmed.

    What Happens to the Fat?

The fat that gets frozen by CoolSculpting® remains while the body initiates processes designed to remove the damaged fat cells. The inflammatory response breaks down the affected cells gradually while the lymphatic system removes them as waste.

While the fat does “melt” away, it isn’t removed immediately like it is in procedures like liposuction. The result is a gradual loss of fat from treated areas that occurs over the duration of weeks to months. This produces a more natural removal of fat, which in turn gives the skin ample time to adjust.

When Should You Opt for CoolSculpting®?

If you have developed troublesome areas where fat seems to persist even after changing your diet and exercise regimen, then you may be an ideal candidate for CoolSculpting®.

Older patients, especially those who may not be ideally suited for surgical procedures such as traditional liposuction, may benefit from the non-surgical nature of CoolSculpting®. Coupled with other non-invasive procedures for skin tightening, this may make for the perfect way to reshape your body.

To see if CoolSculpting® and other non-invasive procedures are right for you, contact Mariposa Aesthetics & Laser Center today. We can schedule a one-on-one consultation appointment to begin drafting the best way to reshape your body to the form you desire.

  • Wrinkle Erasers Vs Dermal Fillers for Nonsurgical Skin Rejuvenation

Skin rejuvenation has made countless advancements. No longer are invasive surgical procedures required to remedy fine lines and minor wrinkles that tend to accompany age.

The problem is that so many advancements have been made that it can be difficult to choose just one. Treatments can have similar effects on rejuvenation, but the longevity and effectiveness of these procedures may vary widely due to the way they rejuvenate the face.

Understanding Wrinkle Erasers and Dermal Fillers

Wrinkle erasers and dermal fillers are designed to treat small imperfections that may present themselves upon the face. While both are only designed for temporary relief, the differences in how these treatments address these issues is what makes them different.

Wrinkle erasers are typically derived from silicone or another flexible material. They are applied topically, which means that they will eventually erode during normal wear, bathing and even the application of makeup.

The advantage of wrinkle erasers is that they are relatively easy to apply when you only have one or two small imperfections. Daily application of certain wrinkle erasers can help smooth the appearance of wrinkles over time, though most wrinkles will reappear if you discontinue using wrinkle erasers.

Dermal fillers aim to correct wrinkles by filling the collagen beneath the skin. They are more versatile than wrinkle erasers because they are applied subdermally and can be derived from a variety of materials.

Dermal fillers can correct loss of firmness in the cheeks, lips and other areas of the skin by utilizing a more rigid filler. They can correct fine lines around the eyes and lips by using hyaluronic-based fillers. When the latter type of filler is used, collagen tends to regrow at the injection site. This allows for the long-term restoration of imperfections.

What Makes One Different from the Other?

The main difference between dermal fillers and wrinkle erasers is where they are applied. Wrinkle erasers are typically applied on the skin, which means they last a shorter time than dermal fillers.

It typically takes six months to two years for dermal fillers to be absorbed by the body. Certain fillers like those that use hyaluronic acid can promote collagen growth, which means their effects can outlast the aforementioned period.

    Wrinkle Erasers or Dermal Fillers?

Wrinkle erasers can work for people with one or two minor imperfections, but their daily application can become tedious. Dermal fillers provide a long-term solution for fixing dermatological imperfections without the need for surgery.

To determine what treatment is right for your unique situation, contact Mariposa Aesthetics & Laser Center today to schedule a consultation appointment. We can evaluate your current needs while leveraging our bountiful rejuvenation experience to craft the most successful restoration plan.

  • Vampire Facelift with PRP for Skin Reshaping and Rejuvenation

Our skin becomes thinner as we age, and it wrinkles more easily because it is becoming poorly supported. Subdermal tissues contain a fibrous mix that includes collagen, but this becomes weaker over time. Abrasive resurfacing is not always a good solution. Surgical facelifts are expensive and cannot always achieve the best results either because the muscular composition of the face disallows certain repositioning of the skin.

A PRP lift, also known as a vampire facelift, is a non-surgical alternative. It uses the patient’s blood to plump up the saggy areas. We encourage all prospective clients to learn more about this unique method of smoothing the skin.

    What is a Vampire Lift?

It’s not really a facelift because no surgery is involved. The skin is not cut and re-stitched. Instead, blood from the client is spun in a centrifuge and the platelets are then concentrated in a small amount of plasma.

This platelet-rich plasma – abbreviated as PRP – is then injected underneath the skin to fill in the volume where the supportive tissues are located.

This is an outpatient procedure that requires no downtime for the client. It can be completed in a short time, with no adverse side effects on the skin because the skin itself is not treated directly.

Who is a Candidate for Vampire Lift Treatment?

The ideal candidate will have set or non-set wrinkling on the cheeks, jaw, near the corners of the mouth, or under the eyes. Crow’s feet and smile lines are caused when we contort our faces. These lines can be diminished significantly when PRP is performed.

Most mature adults suffer from skin sagging on the cheeks as well as small nasolabial folds. A PRP filler treatment works to correct these as well.

    Benefits of a Vampire Lift

The eventual replacement of the fibrin mix by natural tissue takes time, but the results are long-lasting. This is a preferred method of plumping the face because no foreign chemicals are used, only the patient’s blood.

It greatly reduces the chances of any rejection or adverse reaction. Since no skin resurfacing is involved, clients can resume their normal activities immediately without worries about their appearance.

    Contact Us

We encourage you to contact Mariposa Aesthetics & Laser Center today for all the pertinent information on this revolutionary plumping treatment. A PRP vampire lift is a simple outpatient procedure that can easily be scheduled around your other activities. You can restore your facial skin to its more youthful appearance without surgery, chemicals, or heat treatments.

  • BOTOX® for Nonsurgical Wrinkle Relaxation

Have you ever taken a look in the mirror and felt like a stranger was staring back at you? Life is going to take its toll on everyone, and many of us will begin to notice facial lines and wrinkles as we grow older. When these cosmetic issues have become too much of a burden, it is time to start thinking about professional treatments options such as BOTOX® injections that will allow you to regain your confidence.

    What About Alternative Treatments Options?

There is no shortage of anti-aging products that claim they can turn back time, but these treatments are not always effective. Some preventative measures can be taken to slow the development of wrinkles around one’s mouth, eyes, eyebrows, and forehead, but there is no product or trick to avoid them entirely. Surgeries can be quite effective, but they come with risks.

    What’s in a BOTOX® Shot?

BOTOX® was originally used to help patients suffering from chronic migraines, but ongoing research revealed that it could also relax muscles that have become permanently rigid. This includes the muscles that control facial skin.

Over the years, muscles throughout our face can become rigid and clenched for a variety of reasons. When a muscle is clenched for a long period of time, deep lines and wrinkles often begin to form.

BOTOX® shots are designed to relax these muscles and allow the skin to move back to its original position. Unlike fillers that plump and expand the outer layers of skin, BOTOX® is injected underneath the skin.

While these injections are used for “frown lines” on the forehead, they can also be used for wrinkles around the eyes, nose, mouth, and chin.

    Your Screening

One of the biggest advantages of BOTOX® is the fact that few preparations are needed beyond the initial consultation. During your consultation, you will speak with the practitioner about some of the cosmetic issues that you would like to address and give a quick overview of your medical history. If the practitioner believes that you would be a good candidate for these injections, then a procedure will be scheduled.

On the day of your BOTOX® appointment, no makeup should be worn around the injection sites, or it will have to be removed upon arrival. After the injections are carried out, you can immediately return to your regular daily activities. Outside of some minor swelling and redness, most patients have absolutely no negative side effects. The full effects of the shots are typically seen within the first five to seven days.

  • What are ThermiTight and ThermiSmooth?

Smoother skin is something all adults desire. Aging skin begins to wrinkle because the supportive tissues are decreasing in volume. Collagen production beings to lessen, and this further degrades the outward appearance of the skin. Simply applying moisturizers isn’t enough to combat the aging process. The body responds well to applied, targeted heat, and this is where ThermiRF™, a revolutionary new method of stimulating new tissue growth, comes in.

Radio-frequency heat has been shown to increase moisture, build up healthier fibrous tissue growth, and smooth out wrinkles and fine lines. We recommend ThermiTight® or ThermiSmooth® for individuals who want to minimize the wrinkles and skin folds on the face or torso. There are differences between these two procedures, and the method that works best depends on the size of the region to be treated and the amount of tissue growth required for satisfactory results.

    The Science Behind ThermiRF™

This is a gentle heat treatment using a specialized wand. The instrument is connected to a monitor that controls the amount of heat, the temperature of the energy waves, and the duration of each temperature setting.

When controlled heat is applied to the skin surface, some of the energy works its way inward, contracting the collagen-weak fibers and stimulating the body’s natural response mechanisms. The tissue begins to build up over the next several weeks, and the skin surface tightens and becomes more elastic and supple.

    The ThermiTight® Procedure

The wand used in this treatment is a probe. The temperature can be accurately adjusted so that enough energy is delivered to the desired tissue layer without burning the skin.

Depending on the depth of the treated area and the amount of subdermal tissue and its density, the temperature may be adjusted several times to deliver the proper amount of heat over a period of time. After the treatment is completed, the individual can resume normal activities immediately.

    The ThermiSmooth® Procedure

With this treatment, the instrument is pressed against the skin. The gentle heat sensation felt by the patient may be mild.

    Expected Results

These two procedures can be performed on such problem areas as the cheeks and jaws, and body torso. The ideal candidates are those whose wrinkling and skin folding is being caused by poor tissue support rather than an accumulation of excess fat deposits. After the treatment schedule is complete, tightening of the skin caused by stronger support tissue becomes apparent.

  • ThermiVa for Nonsurgical Vaginal Rejuvenation

The vagina is made up of a series of muscles on the pelvic floor. Childbearing and age can cause these muscles to stretch and loosen, making intimacy less satisfying for both partners. Some women also become dissatisfied with the appearance of their labia for the same reasons, as the tissue elongates from age or trauma.

If you aren’t happy with the tightness or appearance of your vagina, ThermiVa is a nonsurgical technique for restoring and rejuvenating the area.

    How Does ThermiVa Work?

This nonsurgical procedure is accomplished using radiofrequency energy. The carefully controlled energy is applied to areas that need tightened, all without burning the tissue. The heat makes microscopic holes in the skin of the vagina or labia, which increases collagen production. This, in turn, results in tightening the skin.

The ThermiVa procedure is quick and may need to be repeated a few times, three treatments at most, for maximum results.

    Are There Any Risks Involved?

There are very few potential complications with ThermiVa. You may experience some soreness for the first day or so, which is completely normal and can be treated with over-the-counter pain medications.

    What If I Can’t Decide?

It may be effective starting out with ThermiVa first because it is more conservative in nature and requires no surgery or recovery time. Having the treatments will not preclude you from seeking other alternatives later, if desired.

    Who Shouldn’t Get ThermiVa?

You shouldn’t schedule a ThermiVa treatment if you are currently experiencing an infection in your genital region. For example, a herpes outbreak or a yeast infection would need to be treated and cleared up before treatment.

You do not want to schedule while you are experiencing your menses. Other than these precautions, there are little restrictions to seeking treatment.

If you’re unhappy with the tightness of your vagina, labia or both, ThermiVa offers a fast, safe, nonsurgical treatment. If you’d like to discuss the options, contact Mariposa MedSpa today to schedule a consultation.

  • Get Long Lasting Wrinkle Correction with Bellafill®

As skin ages, it undergoes a number of physical changes. This allows for the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.

The problem with treating these imperfections revolves around the way that they exist. These fine lines and wrinkles are the result of the underlying collagen matrix deforming in ways that make it uneven.

Bellafill® is one of the most unique and reliable ways of treating these fine lines. It introduces a unique blend of ingredients to the skin that improves the look and feel of skin.

Let’s learn more about how Bellafill® works to understand why it can provide a long-term solution for the imperfections that may plague you.

    How Does Bellafill® Work?

Bellafill® isn’t your typical dermal filler. While it does incorporate collagen to provide immediate results, the secret to what makes Bellafill® so effective resides with the PMMA microspheres contained within it.

These microspheres stay within the collagen layer of the skin once Bellafill® has been injected. They attract the water, which allows them to promote the growth of new, healthy collagen under the skin.

This is something that most dermal fillers fail to do in a reliable manner.

Once new collagen integrates itself at the site of Bellafill® injections, it becomes a long-term solution that can help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Further injections may be needed over time, but the idea is that Bellafill® should reduce how often these injections are needed.

Why Does This Work with Fine Lines and Wrinkles?

Fine lines and wrinkles are especially difficult to treat because of the way they form. They typically reside above or near muscles, which means that deformations to the skin cause these dermatological imperfections.

Most dermal fillers are inadequate for this type of problem due to the way they are quickly absorbed by the body. Movement hastens this absorption, which means that regular injections are required to maintain the results patients desire.

Bellafill® works better than traditional dermal fillers because it works to fill these lines with the collagen that your skin had during its youth. This forms a more resilient barrier as the PMMA molecules incorporate themselves within the new collagen that forms.

These molecules can continue to attract collagen while being absorbed by the body at a slower rate than the ingredients used within other dermal fillers.

Get Rid of Wrinkles for Good with Bellafill® Injections

The PMMA molecules in Bellafill® is what sets it apart from the rest. This allows it to provide you with long-term results that can keep troublesome fine lines and wrinkles away from your beautiful skin.

If you’re ready to rid yourself of those pesky fine lines and wrinkles, then Bellafill® may be just the solution for you. Contact Mariposa MedSpa today to schedule a consultation appointment to see if Bellafill® can rid you of those pesky imperfections for good.

  • Get Smoother Skin for 2016 with ThermiSmooth

Your skin is an essential part of your look. It influences how others see you, and how you feel about yourself.

The problem is that many things such as age, stress and the sun work to tarnish your otherwise beautiful skin. They can make it uneven, force it to develop wrinkles, and hasten the development of other imperfections.

The good news is that your skin’s form can be treated with cutting-edge treatments like ThermiSmooth. It can allow you to have that glowing look without the need for cumbersome surgery or impractical dermatological touch-ups.

    What is ThermiSmooth?

ThermiSmooth utilizes concentrated amounts of heat to reshape the dermis layers of your skin. It initiates the process of neocollagenesis to make your skin look and feel smoother.

The heat applied by ThermiSmooth carefully radiates deep within your skin. It comes in contact with the collagen and elastin that forms much of your skin’s shape. It breaks down outlying cells that can cause wrinkles and fine lines while encouraging healthy, smooth formations to grow beneath your skin.

Unlike more invasive treatments, ThermiSmooth can be applied multiple times to the skin. This allows you to continue improving your skin’s form until you have acquired that perfect, smooth skin you’ve always wanted.

    Is ThermiSmooth Safe?

ThermiSmooth is incredibly safe. There is no need for incisions, which means that the risk of complications is inherently low. When ThermiSmooth is applied by a skilled dermatological care provider, the risk of undesirable side effects becomes even lower.
